MOZAMBICAN SAFARIS

Hunting - Mozambique

Mozambique is our flag ship in southern Africa, making it one of the few areas where one has the opportunity of a true classical big five safari combined with a variety of plains game.

Our safaris take place in concession areas, Coutada 11 and 12, which form part of the Marromeu complex, bordering the mighty Zambezi River in the north and the Buffalo Reserve in the east.

The area is operated by one of Mozambique's oldest outfitters and covers approximately 500 square miles of vast wilderness. Here you will hunt a diverse habitat, extending from swamp to vast grassland flood plains into palm savannahs and thick forest. This diversity offers a broad-spectrum of game with 20 different game species to hunt ranging from the tiny Livingston's Suni to the mighty Elephant. Buffalo roam the open flood plains and swamp in herds of several hundred while experiencing large herds of Sable is not uncommon.

Five camps are scattered throughout the two concessions, with accommodation varying from comfortable East African style tented camps to old Portuguese hunter's camps. All rooms enjoy en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water, powered by generators and solar plants generating 220v electricity.

Hunting season runs from the 1 June to the 30 November each year. During this period one will experience warm to hot weather (65 F - 100 F) with rain throughout the season.

Our hunts vary in length with a minimum of 7 days to a maximum of 21 days, with the recommended being 10 days. All hunts are done in groups, a minimum of 2 hunters per group and a maximum of 6 in both areas.

Lastly, the Mozambican government views the safari industry in a positive light and sees sustainable hunting as a valuable conservation tool within rural communities. Most rural communities rely on meat provided by the safari operators during the hunting season and all hunters can feel assured that their contribution is adding to conservation development in Mozambique.

What People Are Saying

"Our 2014 reunion tour was much more than I dreamed of. The John X team members all went way above their positions to make me feel like family. From the quality of trophies harvested, the fantastic meals, and great accommodations to the camaraderie in the evenings, everything was perfect. A very special thank you to my PH, Stix, his patience and encouragement in helping me harvest extremely nice mature trophies will never be forgotten."

"Great time! Great people! Good food! Beautiful scenery! Spectacular animals!"

This was my first African experience and Carl and John X Safaris definitely did not disappoint. The quality of the hunt and the trophies were no less than phenomenal. I had to work for every animal and that made the hunt more worth it and enjoyable. This will definitely not be my last hunt with John X Safaris and Carl, as I already know what is on my list for the next hunt.

"What an incredible experience. John X Safaris far exceeded our expectations. We had a wonderful time. It was great to see so much diverse country and we were able to stay several days in three different locations. Everyone was so professional and courteous. You really go the extra mile in taking care of your clients. Our PH, Sean, was awesome, as was the whole staff. This is a trip we will never forget. We are already making plans for our next safari. Thank you!"

"Thank you again for a wonderful experience. Botswana was spectacular, Linda and Clive were wonderful hosts and their staff was professional and very helpful. John and Thomas had a great time hunting and I thoroughly enjoyed taking pictures - our driver even showed me how to pick truffles! Every day we saw noteworthy animals and the guys got the trophies they were after. As Thomas' first time on safari I do believe he had a wonderful experience and will be back again. As for us, this was our 7th trip with John X and surely will not be our last. John and I made the side trip to Victoria Falls, including a helicopter ride over the falls - breath taking.
Thanks again, and until next time!"
