MOZAMBICAN SAFARIS

Hunting - Mozambique

Mozambique is our flag ship in southern Africa, making it one of the few areas where one has the opportunity of a true classical big five safari combined with a variety of plains game.

Our safaris take place in concession areas, Coutada 11 and 12, which form part of the Marromeu complex, bordering the mighty Zambezi River in the north and the Buffalo Reserve in the east.

The area is operated by one of Mozambique's oldest outfitters and covers approximately 500 square miles of vast wilderness. Here you will hunt a diverse habitat, extending from swamp to vast grassland flood plains into palm savannahs and thick forest. This diversity offers a broad-spectrum of game with 20 different game species to hunt ranging from the tiny Livingston's Suni to the mighty Elephant. Buffalo roam the open flood plains and swamp in herds of several hundred while experiencing large herds of Sable is not uncommon.

Five camps are scattered throughout the two concessions, with accommodation varying from comfortable East African style tented camps to old Portuguese hunter's camps. All rooms enjoy en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water, powered by generators and solar plants generating 220v electricity.

Hunting season runs from the 1 June to the 30 November each year. During this period one will experience warm to hot weather (65 F - 100 F) with rain throughout the season.

Our hunts vary in length with a minimum of 7 days to a maximum of 21 days, with the recommended being 10 days. All hunts are done in groups, a minimum of 2 hunters per group and a maximum of 6 in both areas.

Lastly, the Mozambican government views the safari industry in a positive light and sees sustainable hunting as a valuable conservation tool within rural communities. Most rural communities rely on meat provided by the safari operators during the hunting season and all hunters can feel assured that their contribution is adding to conservation development in Mozambique.

"I had a great experience and spent time with a professional, knowledgeable, and capable guide. I did not think a second safari was on the cards, but after being here with Juan MacDonald and the John X staff I will be back again.
Thanks Juan!"

My First African Safari and I took a 51” Kudu followed by a 44” Sable, 22” and 20” Impalas, 37” Gemsbuck, impressive Blue and Black Wildebeest, 30+” Waterbuck, and a beautiful Nyala. Can life get any better? Yes it can, as the staff, accommodations, food, and hunting properties, are all second to none!

Thank you Greg and John X Safaris for making my safari experience a memory of a lifetime!

Everything was beyond excellent. Carl worked extremely hard and was a pleasure to be around. With John X Safaris I was able to experience African hunting with luxury. Carl was able to get me every animal that I wanted. Coming to Africa I had no idea what to expect but this trip will be one that I will remember for a long time. Our tracker Zwayi worked extremely hard as well.

"John X Safaris you did it again! When preparing for your 2nd safari you wonder if it will ever be able to top your 1st - but it can! Every experience was new, unique and a lot of fun! The smiles were many and the memory banks are full! The accommodations were as per usual second to none. The people are the best and we now have an extended family in South Africa. Glen Harry is the hunter’s paradise and the challenge it poses is a must for the experienced
hunter. Thanks again friends for all the fun and memories. Until we meet again!"
