CONSERVATION CAUSES

“There are some who can live without wild things and some who cannot.” - Aldo Leopold

While Africa is the land of abundance, there is always a need for wildlife conservation.

South Africa dubbed the “conservation story” of the 20th century, boasts a proud heritage of bringing threatened species back from the brink of extinction. Who could ignore or forget the dwindling Black Wildebeest, Cape Mountain Zebra, and the most famous of all, Rhino, just to mention a few. If it were not for sustainable value – not one of these species would be where they are today.

In saying this we must recognize and salute the pioneers of the South African wildlife story by picking up the torch and taking wildlife conservation to the next level. While it is important to maintain and ensure sustainability in what has been achieved to date, it is as important to grow. A mission of the John X Foundation is to take on new ventures and continue on the success story we’re so proud to be a part of in South Africa.

The John X Foundation will continue to forge ahead exploring uncharted territory, and dare to be different in South Africa and Mozambique. We actively encourage those hunters so inclined to become more involved in our conservation efforts. Many want to support the John X Foundation by making contributions to causes related to preserving species and furthering their expansion. In some cases there are even opportunities to volunteer for active participation in conservation events while on safari.

For a personalized answer to all your questions with regards to the John X Foundation, please feel free to contact Trish directly. She will be more than glad to assist with contribution options on the most current projects.

What People Are Saying

"A wonderful experience - 50 years in the making. The entire staff was outstanding. Especially memorable because I hunted with my son, son-in-law and a good friend. It cannot get any better; hunting in the North was an added bonus I was not expecting. A wonderful, magic place to be on safari."

"You would think after four exciting hunts with John X, including one to Mozambique, there couldn't be any new experiences. Wrong! Our trip to the Umkomaas Valley, staying in canvas sided, thatch roofed huts, situated along a beautiful waterway was another. Despite a few days of rain putting a damper on hunting, the "big one" being elusive, Ed Wilson, our PH and the superb staff at camp made this hunt a very memorable one. Each of our experiences have been different but exciting - wetting our whistle in anticipation of our next trip with John X."

"I did my first hunt with John X Safaris in 2010 and had a wonderful time. After returning home I started planning my next safari for 2011. Some of my friends from Scandinavia wanted to join for my return trip, making our group 16. We hunted from the Coastal and Northern areas, hunting a variety of plains game. I was after the rest of the spirals and was lucky to bag a fantastic Eland up in the Karoo.

After returning to the coast I hunted a big Bushbuck and Nyala. My Nyala was my favourite, after a long day we finally got a fantastic Nyala, thanks to Carl. This is a day I will remember for the rest of my life, thank you my friend. A big thanks to Carl, Gary and your families. The staff at the camps went out of their way to produce fantastic service.

We will be back for another Scandinavian Invasion of the East Cape."

"Our family can’t say thank you enough for all the wonderful memories and adventures John X Safaris provided us. Amazing first time hunting experiences for Abby, all of Bo’s animals including his record breaking Kudu, and some exhilarating Cape Town adventures. You have exceptional staff, fantastic accommodations, and truly an amazing game reserve. We enjoyed every minute and can’t wait to begin planning another trip back!"

I can think of many great moments, but sneaking up onto my Nyala and ending up with a Kudu was one of the most exciting moments in my life. The praise can go on, but in short - I will return!!!
