By Professional Hunter Ross “Stix” Hoole Stepping up two low stone terraces into camp for the first time, I looked up, an overwhelming sense of euphoria hit me, in front of me lay a vast river with Elephants drinking to a serenade of Hippo in a deep pool with a setting sun. This was the […]Continue Reading

By Paul Brisso A marvel of a safari is that even when things don’t go exactly as planned or intended, there can be benefits that pay dividends in the future. Mistakes or mishaps on today’s safari may provide a learning experience that result in future safari success rather than disappointment. Because even the most seasoned […]Continue Reading

The group comprised of our old friends, Steve Travis and Glynn Underwood, as well as first timers, Derrick Ratliff, Luciano Batista, […]Continue Reading

Having met Derrick Ratliff at Dallas Safari Club’s annual Convention during January 2016 we immediately knew we were dealing with a passionate man. What People Are Saying
"I always wondered why the phrase “safari” was used when referring to a hunting excursion in Africa. After having spent 2 weeks with Carl and his crew in beautiful South Africa, I no longer wonder why. The words journey and expedition appear in the dictionary when referring to a safari, visiting South Africa was exactly that for me and our group. Sharing this safari with our group will be something that will never be forgotten. I’ll never forget the great friendships that were made on this trip, from Carl’s great PH’s to the four great friends that made room for me to tag along! A big thanks to Kregg, Pete, Chad, and Jen! The accommodation were first class, the hunting was an experience of a lifetime, and the memories made will last forever. Thanks Carl and Greg for all you did, I know I speak for the group when I say we can’t wait to do it again!"~ Garrett '13 from
This trip exceeded all of my expectations! We will be back. Thank you for everything.~ Kevin Burlingame '15 from
"I did my first hunt with John X Safaris in 2010 and had a wonderful time. After returning home I started planning my next safari for 2011. Some of my friends from Scandinavia wanted to join for my return trip, making our group 16. We hunted from the Coastal and Northern areas, hunting a variety of plains game. I was after the rest of the spirals and was lucky to bag a fantastic Eland up in the Karoo.
After returning to the coast I hunted a big Bushbuck and Nyala. My Nyala was my favourite, after a long day we finally got a fantastic Nyala, thanks to Carl. This is a day I will remember for the rest of my life, thank you my friend. A big thanks to Carl, Gary and your families. The staff at the camps went out of their way to produce fantastic service.
We will be back for another Scandinavian Invasion of the East Cape."~ Bertil Friman '12 from Sweden

"... John X Safaris is truly a great safari operation. I have nothing but good things to say. The accommodations, food, lodge staff and most of all the quality of game are second to none."~ Tony White '12 from USA
"This was my first trip to Mozambique & my first dangerous game hunt. Due to my professional hunters and tracker, I never had any concern over my safety. I was successful in all the game I hunted and all the game taken were mature trophies. I would recommend John X Safaris to anyone that was considering an African Hunt."~ Ron Machado '12 from USA
